Tasting notes BLACKCURRANT · BLACKBERRY · BLACK TEA · LEMON ZEST

This is a bright, complex SL28 from Leonardo Henao Triana, a producer known for his careful approach to quality and fermentation. Expect juicy blackcurrant and berry sweetness, balanced by delicate black tea and a crisp citrussy finish.

Rather than a classic washed profile, the cherries are fermented both before and after pulping, creating more sweetness, body and depth while preserving a clean, vibrant cup. It is an expressive coffee that rewards slowing down and paying attention as it cools.

El Jardín, Colombia

This is not a standard washed Colombian. Leonardo Henao Triana’s SL28 has been carefully processed to build greater sweetness, texture and fruit complexity while keeping the cup clean and precise. Expect juicy blackcurrant and mixed berries, a refined black-tea structure, and a crisp citrus finish that becomes even more expressive as the coffee cools.

Leonardo’s route into coffee came through curiosity and hands-on craft rather than a family inheritance. He has worked as a cupper, quality analyst, farm manager and fermentation specialist, bringing that full-spectrum experience to every lot he produces. His work with Chiroso at Los Palomos earned a place in the 2021 Cup of Excellence, following a wider Henao family success in the 2020 competition, where a washed Chiroso from Los Tres Mosqueteros received the Presidential Award with a score of 90.03.

For this SL28, fully ripe cherries ferment in fruit for 24 to 48 hours before pulping. The coffee then undergoes a further one to three days of fermentation away from light before being sun-dried. The result sits between a classic washed coffee and a more experimental fermentation: bright and clean enough to showcase SL28’s dark-berry and citrus character, but with more body, sweetness and depth than a conventional washed lot. SL28 is a Bourbon-related variety originally selected in 1935, known for its quality potential and vibrant fruit expression.
