This is our chocolate-driven Brazilian that earns its place as a go to for any espresso-based drink – from flat whites and cappuccinos to lattes and long blacks. Grown by José Maria de Faria at Fazenda Retiro in Cerrado Mineiro, it delivers that big-bodied, sweet and velvety profile you want in a dependable house espresso.

The Cup: Smooth, rich and indulgent, with cacao nibs, biscuit and dark chocolate at the core. Layers of caramel, nutty sweetness and ripe plum sit on top of a creamy mouthfeel, giving you a dessert-like cup that holds its own in milk and tastes deep and sweet as a straight espresso.

Why it’s a go to for espresso:

Pulled as espresso, this Paraiso lot produces a thick crema, low bitterness and a long, sweet finish that plays perfectly with steamed milk. In flat whites and cappuccinos, the cacao, biscuit and caramel notes cut through to give you that “chocolate biscuit” vibe, while the creamy texture keeps everything round and comforting
